We tested hardware from six suppliers before settling on solid brass. Plated zinc looked identical in the catalog and in photographs. After three months of daily use on a prototype bag, the plating had worn through at the strap contact points and the base metal was flaking.
Solid brass does not flake. It tarnishes to a softer tone, which matches what the leather is doing, and it can be polished back if you prefer it bright.
Every buckle, rivet and ring in the collection will be solid brass. We will note it on each piece so you do not have to guess.
